You might check out the Woody House. At one point, there were 14 kids living here! It started as a small cabin and expanded. The Woodys welcomed the earliest tourists as a way to make some extra money, feeding them and letting them sleep in their barn. Do you think that would have been fun?

WHAT’S COOL? Catching “dinner” when you’re fishing with your family.

Other families saw the opportunities too, setting up fishing camps and charging fishermen who wanted to fish in their streams. At the beginning of the last century, there were some 200 buildings in this small cove. That all changed when the government bought the land to establish Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the families left.

Today, what once were orchards and farmlands have returned to wilderness where you can enjoy watching the wildlife, especially the elk. Have you ever seen a wild turkey or a skunk? They are here, too.

There are also plenty of places here to picnic and camp. Did you remember your s’mores fixings?

DID YOU KNOW?
